Before I get started, you should listen to this while you read the latest post....a little easy listening, christchurch theme song. We arrived in Christchurch yesterday afternoon. It was a long drive from Blenheim to here, but very pretty. Most of the drive was along the coastline, right beside the blue blue ocean. We got lots of pictures and saw more cows and sheep...just the norm in new zealand. When we got settled into our hotel I went out for Starbucks with a friend I met through facebook. She showed me around a bit, it was good to get out and do something with someone my own age. The city seems really pretty so far. We had dinner at a local restaurant and everyone was pretty tired pretty early. We all packed it in and me and Emma were just laying in bed, tv on, me on my computer and her writing in her journal when suddenly our room started shaking. It was the latest of the aftershock. We survived our first earthquake...and the 2 that followed into the night. We walked all around town today and are starting to see some of the damage from the quake. Some buildings collapsed completely, walls crapped split and fallen in, crack in road and sidewalks. Its not as bad as we expected, but it's still noticeable. We went to the library, and cruised around all afternoon. My feet are aching. Tomorrow we are going to school to see about registering, I'm also going to apply for a job and I'm meeting up with Rachel again. Who knows what other crazy quakes we'll experience... |
